Natural Pregnancy & Birth Support In Nashville

I am pregnant for the second time(yeah!), and even though it's been less than two years since the birth of my first child, I find myself looking for answers to a lot of the same questions that I had the first time around. What hospital will be most friendly to a natural birth? Would my insurance cover a home birth? How much would it cost us out of pocket if they didn't?

We expectant moms have a lot on our minds. Especially if it's our first time out. I remember being a little overwhelmed by the array of options when I was planning my first labor and delivery. Thankfully my family was truly supportive as well as my midwife at West End Womens Health Center. Friends and family who are supportive of our choices, a good practitioner and a calm, safe place to deliver can make all the difference in the world. I'm working on finding my ideal place to deliver right now. It may be Vanderbilt hospital again or we might find someplace where we're even more comfortable.

In case anyone else is searching along these same lines I'm including some links here that I liked and a few books as well.

For more articles about natural childbirth click here.

Some links I liked:

Vanderbilt Nurse - Midwives website gives a good rundown on their services and philosophy of childbirth. They have many midwives in their group and they deliver at Vanderbilt Hospital.

Tender Beginnings Birth Services website covers the practice of Franklin, TN midwife Mary Anne Richardson. It contains a good collection of articles and links regarding homebirth.

Country Life Midwifery Services website covers the practice of Nashville midwife Heather Wilson. Contains a good description of her philosophy and care.

A couple of great books to prepare with:

  Active Birth by Janet Balaskas

Gentle Birth Choices by Barbara Harper

The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin
